If you are experiencing problems with your washer, there is no need to panic, you can do some basic washer repair by yourself. If the washer won’t spin or drain water out, check for clogs in the hose and then unplug it before trying again. If you hear gurgling sounds when you run your machine, turn off the power and look for leaks around the door seal. A broken pump seal will also make these noises.

Fixing an overflowing or leaking washer usually requires replacing both hoses on either side of the washing machine drum; one goes from the hot-water heater to outside (or draining into a sink), and the other goes from the cold-water supply to inside. Check the drain pump filter to see if it’s clogged. If so, unplug washer and pull out the filter using pliers. Then, clean it out and put the filter back into place before running another cycle.

Some other common washer problems include a stinky, moldy smell from the rubber door boot. Use bleach to remove stains and odors from this area by wiping it down with a 50/50 vinegar-water solution. Some machines have an interior metal grate that can rust or corrode through over time; replacing this piece will solve your problem of loud noises coming from inside when you use your machine.
